Verbena rigida produces short straight stems with bristly leaves and small heads of rich, dark purple flowers. This verbena slowly spreads and intermingles with other plants, where it forms small drifts - it can be used to great affect amongst other herbaceous perennials or in containers.

This lovely verbena blends in brilliantly with a purple colour scheme and will survive in heat and low rainfall.

August is usually one of the hottest months of the year - making watering essential. Try to use grey water wherever possible, especially as water butts may be running low if it has been a dry summer. August is traditionally holiday-time, so you might need to enlist the help of friends and family to look after the garden while you are away.

Direct Gardens offer a professional garden design service which is specifically tailored to your needs, providing shrub and planting advice, designs and planting plans, from a small area to a full-size garden.

We will work with you so you have something that meets your requirements, from the traditional cottage garden to a contemporary city garden.
